My rebuilt 6V generator does not raise the voltage when on the tractor but the guy that rebuilt it said it worked on the bench. What RPM should I have him test it at? What is idle RPM? What is high idle? What is tops? Ideas on voltage I should see? Thanks, C.

If it still shows that it is charging with the lights on, it should be putting out enough to keep the battery charged. I think you should be turning 1,600 rpm's with the tractor almost wide open. Do you have a voltage regulator or does it still have the original cut-out relay installed? Does the ammeter show any charging amps? If the generator is working and you have a voltage regulator, you can adjust the charging rate at the regulator.

I have a DC but I suspect SC would be similar. to get PTO speed you need about 1200-1300 engine RPM idle is around 500 but the crankshaft pulley on a DC is almost twice diameter of Fan/waterpump shaft pulley...so that doubles RPM.
Then how big is your generator pulley related to the fan shaft pulley. On my DC I have a 6 volt alternator that needs about 100 rpm to initialize. The pulley on it is half the size of the fan/waterpump shaft pulley so my alternator is turning almost 4x engine speed...neve had a problem wiht charging. I don't think lack of speed is your problem...However have you checked over you connections and grounds very carefully. I have had generators on a Farmall H that checked out great on the test bench that would not keep up with the lights at PTO RPM. Problem turned out to be a bad connection (regulator was inadequately grounded)
