1946 VAC...

My parents just got my grandads 1946 VAC. I've looked into it enough to identify the year. It is not in running condition, but it is loose and restorable. Narrow front, no eagle hitch.
Was this engine made by Continental and not Case? If so where do I find rebuild kits for the engine? It's missing the side skirts, does anybody make these now a days, or do I need to look for someone parting out a tractor?
It has the rear PTO pulley for a sickle bar mower (I believe), but I don't think we've got the sickle. Are these available out there?
I'm used to the 3 point hitches on newer tractors, so this one is a bit of a stretch for me. Any suggestions on how to learn more about hooking up to this tractor?
Thanks for any help

VA series had Case engines in them, while the V series, the forerunner of the VA series, had Continentals. We've got a '41 VC, they are different from the VA series, but they are easy to tell apart. The V series Continentals are flat heads with the exhaust & intake pipes on opposite sides of the hood. The Case engines in the VA series are overhead valves w/both pipes on the left as you sit on the tractor. We just finished overhauling a '46 VAC, had to find a used piston, but valves, rings & bearings were available at the local parts house. Good luck, they are a nice tractor. BTW, the "C" designation on early Cases' designate "row crop" models. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Used parts should be easy to find. My understanding is that the Continental Engine was made to Case specifications and the parts are the same for both engines? Does your tractor have the hydraulic system that runs off the belt pulley? My dad has a 1948 VAC with a Case-Detroit mower on it. The hydraulics and PTO are not "live", so it takes a little getting used to. Check out the web site link listed below. Also check out www.jicaseworld.com.

It has some sort of hydraulics... not sure exactly what. It does seem to be run off the belt pulley.
I think it was used to run the front mount cultivators, that we have.

Is that MO as in Missouri? Whereabouts? I'm in Columbia.

I've got a pretty good set of side curtains and quite a bit of other assorted VAC stuff.

If the casting # on the left side of the crankcase is VT328 you've got the Case-built engine.

Missouri is correct. I'm in Winfield MO... bout an hour west and north of St. Louis. Columbia is ~ 1.5 hours away. I'll look at the castings this week and also find out specifics on what we have. As far as implementsgo, 'm pretty sure we've got the cultivators. I've seen the PTO pulley (rough shape), and I'd like to attach a sickel bar to it. I'll have to make a note of those side curtains though.
Let me get back to you next week when I know more. Thanks for the info.
