I rebuilt a VAC over the winter. It runs like crap. I put new sleeves, pistons, cam, valve train, bearings, ect in it, and it would run perfect for about 2 minutes then burn the points. I installed an elecronic ignition setup and still runs like crap. What did I miss? It is still 6V positive ground.

You might want to check the distributor bushing. VAC's that I have worked around almost always have excessive play in this area.

I would run the tractor for 1-2 minutes, and the points would burn again and again. I bought a Pertronix setup from the nice folks here, and it still runs like crap without points to burn. Could something be stuck in a carburator nozzle? I put a kit in the carb after it soaked in carb cleaner for a couple days.

You didn't say what had been done to/for the ignition and fuel systems. Burned points is indicative of an open capacitor.

Unless it was converted VACs came from factory with Positive Ground. (Unlike DC/SC of same vintage...go figure)

Is the coil a 6 volt coil and is it wired correctly for positive ground (+ to dist ...- to switch)
