I am trying to move 8m of soil with a 3 point linkage bucket on the back of my david brown 990. At the start everything was fine then the speed the bucket dropped gradually slowed to nothing. Now, even with my considerable bulk jumping on it nothing happens. Knob on hand brake thing is fully aniti clockwise. Any suggestions.

I started looking on here because of the same problem. I work on tractors everyday---for a living, however this is the first case 990 that i have worked on. It has the same problem and is in a control valve inside the axle housing on the right side. I have the valve out--wich i would not recommend anyone doing unless they have a manuall and want to get pretty deep. i may just replace the valve if i can find one, wich may very well be your only recourse as well. Maybe someone here can tell us some more about it---good luck

In New Zealand, we have been servicing and supplying parts for DB,s for 20 years, and my father before me.
We rebuild the valve chest you talk about. Causes of this problem are: latching valve sticking, or the sleeve that this moves in [like a liner], breaks its loctite, turns and blocks the port. The by-pass valve can stick, this is caused by an insert in the bore that wears, 95% of rebuilds require this replacing nowdays. Also the oil can track around the outside of the main spool sleeve [again loctite breakdown] If you want anymore information send an email to me at : caseparts@oshawa.co.nz

We specialise in DB's in New Zealand for the past 20 years, and my father before. We have been reconditioning these all these years. Causes of hydraulics not going down are: latching valve stuck, this valve runs in its own sleeve [like a liner], this can break its loctite, turn and block its port, so you are always in lift. The by-pass valve runs through an insert in the body, a bit like a guide, but the clearance is critical. These days these inserts always need replacing. The wear here causes the valve to stick, either in lift or lower. The other problem, past the main spool sleeve which is loctited in place. Often buying a 2ndh control valve is not much better than what you have. If you want any more information email me at: caseparts@oshawa.co.nz
Thanks, Barry
