For years I've wanted to have our '51 DC dyno'd but never have. It has the 4" pistons and a straightpipe. Other than that, it is stock. What horsepower would you say it has? It's pretty impressive! Thanks, Glenn F.

My dad and I found out that there are 2 different height 4" pistons. Some are flush with the top of the block when on DC and some are 1/4" down. You can insert at 1/4 peice of brake line tubing in the spark plug hole on those and roll them all the over and the piston will never hit it. You need to know which pistons you have.

From what I have heard from others my guess is that if you are running stock 1200 loaded rpm, 1390 no load, and have good normal compression and valves, with 87 octane fuel, you should be around 42 hp with 4" pistons. The normal 3&7/8 put out around 38 hp, 4&1/16 flat about 45hp and the 4&1/16 m&w about 52hp. I'd like to know what others have found by actual test. You can enhance power with higher octane, but I have never seen it done in tests. Would be fun to do at a Case ralley some time. Have a free dyno test available.

I have one of those too. It has 4" Case aluminum flat top pistons and new sleeves with a 5505 head. I pulled it Monday. The engine never pulled down, it just barked a little louder.I got 4th. Beat by a regular M, SM running 3000 and a G JD. The SM should have DQ'd but they let him have second. Everyone else was running Mfg rpm's. I might dyno mine this week end. Hate those IH guys that run double the stock rpm.

I had my 1951 D with eagle hitch dynoed last week and it had a strong 42 hp. with stock rpm + 10 percent it never skiped a beet. held it on for at least 5 min, made me happy I think it has 4.00 in. pistons not sure. DCDENNIS
