I've had one 12 volt in a 530 for 25 years. The only time it cranks slow is in freezing weather. Since I'm in south Texas that's usually not very often. I use a cheap 750 CCA from Walmart, so a better one may help in cold weather. We switched just so we only had to buy one battery instead of two. Tony

I switched my 830 from 2 six volts in series to 2 twelve volts in parallel.

Gary, whichever combination that stores the most energy can deliver more energy to the starter. You have to compare apples to apples. Generally, the more lead n acid n plates the more energy storage and thats usually the combination of two six volters in series simply cuz you have more lead n acid n plates that way. Given comparable battery design n type n quality (of the 6 vs the 12) if the two sixes completely fills the battery box where a single 12 volt only half fills it, the two batteries has more lead n acid n plates and likely stores more energy. HOWEVER thats NOT to say that two real light wimpy 6 volters stores more energy than a super heavy duty high rated 12 volt unit.

One problem is instead of rating batteries in amp hours (more of an energy storage indicator) they now use Cold Cranking Amps CCA so it may be harder to decipher what you end up with.

I would probably go with two sixes expecially if they completely fill the batery box versus a smaller lighter single 12. NOTE some drawbacks are you have to buy 2 batterys and they should be matched,,,,, thats 2 more connections,,,,, and if one goes bad it can be hard on the other one.

You will get more cranking amps with 2 6's and longer time also .
