I have a 1946 vac casetractor and my problem is the tractor will only run if I pour gas down the air intake. The carb is clean but not adjusted or rebuilt. So she starts but wont stay running. Any suggestions? Thanks, Soren

Process of elimination, pull the drain plug on the bottom of the carb, if no fuel is present work your way toward the tank untill you find fuel flow. If by chance you find fuel in the carb after you pull the drain plug check the adjustments on the carb, keep in mind some carbs have an adjusting screw in the bottom of the float bowl so you can just remove the complete assembly, sometimes rust, dirt, water will make you pull your hair out.

I had that issue last month, with our new /old tractor. Didnt I diognosed it the same way, spraying fuel in the card throat. Didnt clean up till I cleaned the dirt dobbers net out of the venturi. :) Scott

I have a 1945 Case VAC with a wide front end. Excellent little tractor!
For a good description of your fuel system go to the fuel system section at this site:
You may have:
1. A blockage in your fuel line from tank to carb (did you first check that your sediment bowl valve is functioning?).
2. A stuck float or float valve in the carb.
3. Debries in a fuel passage in the carb.
The carb is very basic and simple to disassemble and reassemble. Use a compressor to blow out the passages. The above site will show the components and adjustments once reassembled. Be sure and set your float level as recommended.
Good Luck.
