I have noticed that on my tractor there are numerous covers on the sides of the engine and transmission or torque tube. Are gaskets readily available for these,or do I make my own? Right now they are sealed with a lot of blue silicone. Not a neat job of doing it either.John.

All DC engines have 4 inspection covers, two on each side of the pan. New gaskets come with a complete overhaul set along with new copper washers for the bolts. The covers on the engine were meant to allow changing a rod or piston from the bottom without taking off the head. The two in the side of the clutch can be bought separately from your Case-IH dealer. They allow access to adjust the clutch.

The inspection covers on the oil pan are no problem, silicon is fine. However the covers on the side of the transmission are another story. They have shims under them that allow you to adjust the end play in the transmission shafts. These need to be adjusted to allow free turning without end play by adding or removing shims. I suggest you buy a manual off of ebay.
