188 Diesel Engine !What is it worth !

I have this engine ,it's in a 580 tractor loader,It needs a complete Rebuild, I am thinking of selling it ,

I know 2 things based on my own research for a "gas" engine I'm about to embark on for a rebuild...

1- There is no shortage of diesel engines or parts out there it seems. Gas is a different story.

2- Depending on how bad it is, and how good the next owner wants it to be, you're talking possibly up to $1200 in just parts for a whole compliment of kits. Doesn't include labour for machining or hot tanking or anyting else.

So without knowing how much of a rebuild it needs, it's hard to say. Did it run for you or did you come across it? You'd likely make more money parting it out on eBay than selling it as a whole engine. I suspect a good crankshaft or one that is machined ready for a rebuild might be worth something. Good luck.
