THE FUEL PUMP ON MY 1570 HAS AN OIL LEAK COMING OUT OF THE SEAL AROUND THE THROTTLE LINKAGE WHERE IT COMES OUT OF THE PUMP. IS THEIR AN EASY FIX WITHOUT TAKING IN THE PUMP?

The aluminum governor housing has a steel sleeve with an O ring sealing it and the is a E ring clip holding it in place. The clip is internal. Then there is another O ring between the throttle shaft and the steel sleeve. The leak is between the steel sleeve and the housing as the aluminum wore. Some pump shops now J-B weld or epoxy the sleeve in place when replacing the housing, but then the governor fulcum arm will hard to remove as you remove the E clips and take out the sleeves to make room for removal. We have as an economy repair on the tractor, removed the throttle arm and the outer O ring. Then above the steel sleeve which is about 1/4 to 3/8 long where the radius above the sleeve curves inward, we drill a small 1/16 or 3/32 hole through the aluminum to the sleeve. With the O ring out, take a snap ring plier and rotate the sleeve and spray with brakleen or primer and compressed to clean between the two surfaces. Spray around exterior and down your drilled hole. When clean, work red loctite down the newly drilled hole. I prefer 271, and keep rotating the sleeve until you see loctite make it all the way around. Give it some cure time. As I said econony, but we have done it for years.
