Does anyone know if a 207 diesel engine will replace a 188. I know the 201 gas will fit into a tractor that had a 188 but I don't know about the 207. I don't need one, just curious.
Thanks
Phil

I just did it - no problem. in reply to PhilcaseinWPa, 11-21-2005 05:52:33
I recently replaced the 188D engine in my 580CK backhoe/loader with a 207D. They are exactly the same dimentionally - no problem at all. The changes I had to make had nothing to do with the engine models - it was more related to the application of each engine. Regardless if the engine is a 188D or a 207D, they are both available with cast oil-pans, thin steel oil pans, one piece timing covers, two piece timing covers, and various intake and exhaust manifolds. Since the engine blocks are dimensionally identical, it is no problem switching accessories from one engine to the other. In my situation, I had a old 580CK with a 188D using a one piece timing cover, a wet 12 volt starter, and a cast-iron oil-pan and also a cast-iron intake manifold. The 207D came from a military forklift and had a thin sheet-metal oil pan, a two piece soft-metal timing cover, a dry 24 volt starter motor, and soft-metal intake manifold. I simply swapped the necessary parts and all went fine.

I am working on a 67 530 case ,i am replacing the 188 with a 207 but i have to use my 188 crank and rods the 207 doe's not have the splines in the crank for the pto ,the rod inserts on the 207 crank are bigger than the 188 the main inserts are the same i will use 207 pistons they will fit my 188 rods ,the 207 block will bolt right up to the tractor looks the same .
