Does anybody know where I can find a good set of 3 bottom plows for a 1030. I would prefer lift type rather than pull. I am located in central kentucky. Thanks.

Hey Glenn: What you got for soil? I thought we had the poorest land in the USA here. Seneca County Clay.

It is heavy. Quite a little red clay in it. No one pulls big plows. We have 4-16's behind our 1270 with loaded 20.8x38 tires on it. It has its hands full. Good productive land. We grow corn, alfalfa, oats, and neighbors grow beans. Glenn F.

I personally am not familiar with other brands of plows that may work with the 1030. A lift type plow that works on the original eagle hitch is what I am after. We generally no-till and are only planning on turning about 5 acres in a field that is not very level or evenly shaped. A 3 bottom is all we really need but I would consider 4's if that is all I could find.

The 1030 has a category II 3 point hitch. What brands of plows will work for this machine?

I know what you need the short plows for, I am also in central KY we used a 4 bottom lift type on or 930, long plows don't work well on the rolling hills around here, the long semi-mount 5 or 6 plows are good in the river bottom. Last spring we used 3 semi- mount it was a 4 bottom we removed one to use up on the hill ground.

If you can't find 3 the 1030 should handle 4 with out any problems.

A 1030 will play with 4 & tear 3 up. When I was a kid, we pulled 6-16's with a 1030 in 3rd.

Agreed. A 730 will pull 3/16's. A 1030 will pull 6/16's even in heavy loam soil.

Hey Mikey: I pulled 4-16's with the 730CK. 3rd Gear always. Always wondered if I would have got more ground plowed with 3-16's in 4th?

Hi John, Back in 1974 my dad thought we would get more done in a day if he bought a 4-16 Monroe plow. He junked the Case 3 point hitch Case plow (sad). The problem was that we had to drop down a gear, form 4th to 3rd. At the end of the day, we were a half day behind because of the slower ground speed. It worked out in the end because the next year we had a brand new 870 in the shed. Plus, the 8-speed 870 was geared up compaired to the 8-speed 730, so 3rd on the 870 was the same as 4th on the 730. That Monrow plow would plug up BIG TIME with cornstalks 4 or 5 times around. We got rid of that sucker and got an IH 516(?) or something close to that. I still have that 870 and that AM/FM radio.

OOPS! Forgot to add that I still have THE 730, the 870, the kozy-cab* AND the am/fm radio.

It's OK this time of year, but I also use it in the summer for mowing goverment land (S.A) and then the CAB is too hot.

John, we pulled four 14's with our 730CK diesel in fourth gear. Hills and heavy soils. Walked along with it and no difficulties. Damn good tractor. If fact after my brother traded it off for a John Deere, thanks to the Case dealer, wouldn't even bother to do a service call or stop and talk trade, the guy who bought it parked his 4010 and put it on the chopper. He loved driving it!

John, it was a world of difference going from the DC with 3 to the 730 with 4. By the way I'm sure you know there can be a world of difference in plows. My Uncle had a Case 3/16's that his 830 barked in 3rd gear to pull the darn thing. Never seen a plow like it. Dealer said there was something about that plow that they couldn't figure out. He wouldn't sell them on account of it.

Interesting. One of "those" Case plows ended up here. Had it on the back of the 830 and 3rd (lo, and direct) gear was only possible on perfect flat ground. Rest of the time it was 2nd, lo. On a hill with clay, that plow would bring the 830 to its knees. Neat old plow though, Old Abe was still visible on the back of the plowshares.
