In reference to the earlier posts on this subject, I was wondering why the "30 Series tractors could be shifted on the roll (not under load), yet my neighbors fancy modern "86 Series IH tractors had to come to a complete stop before you could shift. I don"t think either one had synchronizers, so why was the Case so much easier to shift on the go?

I really think that its normal for the the tractor comapnies to tell the owners to stop the tractor before shifting Spur gear trannies. You can damage them if you don't know what you are doing and they like to be on the safe side. Just in case. I do like your answer though, Giggle.

I don't think much of those IH/Tinker Toy transmissions, easy to work on and that's about it!
