I'm beginning to gather parts before my trek back to ND to pick up my tractor and was wondering if anyone had a guess as to what magneto and carburetor is on my tractor (or what should have been on there originally)? I'm waiting to hear back from the previous owner who is storing it for me. Serial number is: 4503645. Unfortunately I don't have any close-up detailed shots of the tractor.

I realize this may be a long shot, but my time up there this trip is limited and I'd like to have as much ready to R&R as possible.

I downloaded the pic and zoomed in and lightened it up it appears to be a 4JMA by Case mag.

I have the magneto book on it if you would like a copy let me know and send me your e-mail address. its a large file worth every bit of trouble it takes to download.

Walt

You can get a rebuilt one for about $350.00 ojust clean it up and hope it works Most of them do work with very little help.

Walt,
Thanks for the information and trouble you went through to get it. I'd like to have a copy of the magneto book if you could please send it to aanderud@alltel.net .

I really hope that I'll find the tractor in the condition the seller told me it was in. I'm really not going to be happy if he told me the condition it was in... 20 years ago when he bought it and hasn't moved it since.

Thanks, I'm currently looking at my Case S Series Service Manual and it states in there that the magneto should be a Case 4-JMA. So hopefully that answers that question. Now to figure out what carburetor is on there... there's one poor picture of it in the manual. But that's to say it's not been replaced at some time. I guess on that I'll probably have to buy what I think is the right one or wait to see if I hear from the previous owner. If I buy the kit, there's always E-Bay I guess to get rid of it if I can't return it. Hopefully if I can get fuel and spark this thing should run.

If you're close enough to a decent library to call, their research people may have something in the stacks to help..I&T's Farm Tractors 26-56 lists orig (hopefully) carb (but only maker, no model #) and same for mag, but they might have something more detailed

Thanks, I looked on E-Bay and found a used I&T manual for $9.00. I think I'm 99% sure now of the magneto and about 90% sure on the carburetor thanks to the forum.

carb is a Zenith, some really early photos show a mag that looks differen't than a Case JMA, could it be a Eisman or Splitdorf? otherwise it could be a Case JMA, 41, Wico, Fairbanks, IH or anything that could or was bolted on the past 65 years!

I don't know if anyone can tell from the picture showing the magneto, it's about all I have to go on so far.

Thanks, it looks like at least I'm past Step 1 on the carburetor. When looking at Zenith carburetor kits, I see there are several different models. I guess I'm going to have to wait on the previous owner to get back to me or wait until I can get the numbers when I pick it up.
