I was looking at a 2290 that was for sale. Engine runs nice, but the gearbox seems to be blocked. If you let the clutch come up, the engine will die. Tractor will not move in al gears. Also noticed the right brake pedal is al the way down and does not want to come up. I don`t know these older case tractors and there are no parts for it in europe. Is this going to be a major repair or something small ?? Thanks fore any information.

We service and repair a few of these in New Zealand. The transmissions need regular oil and filter changes. The transmission works with hydraulic operated control valves, and these can stick from very fine contaminants. Two valves operate two clutch packs for each gear. It is a combination of these packs that change gear ratios. When the transmission locks up, it is usually because there are three valves operating and locking up three packs. That is one valve has not released when it should. There are test points on the control valve [RH side under cab], It really 4 gauges plugged in at once, to follow the sequence of valve opening and shutting. Often it is a matter of cleaning and polishing these or the problem valve, oil and filter change. But in your case it could be a bigger problem. If you have a clutch pack problem, you are into serious money. Up until now I have not had a problem buying parts, but they are expensive.

Thanks Barry for your help, I think I am not going to buy this tractor, like you said, if it is not a valve it is going to cost a lot of money.
Just going to wait for some other big tractor to buy.
