I can clear up one question. There should be down pressure, the book says this about the control lever:
FULL FORWARD-Maximum Lift Speed- Move lever there and it will return automatically when lift is completed. FULL REARWARD-Float Position-Implement will fall due to its' own weight-lever will not return by itself when cycle is completed. This is float. MID-POSITION-This is between neutral and full rearward. In this position, hydraulic downforce is applied to the implement NOTE: Lever must be manually held in this position until lowering cycle is complete, if released lever returns to neutral. (I assume the implement will stay in position if put in neutral) So guys, there should be a downforce. Sorry but it doesn't list how much. I would think it should be equal to upforce? Larry, I'm sorry mine doesn't run yet or I would check for you, but you know that story. Sorry so long, just wanted to add my two cents worth. Chris.

I don’t have an old styled 400 but 700 & 800 I think that they are the same.
Mine will pick the back of the tractor off the ground.
In my opinion you must have something in the linkage department giving you your grief.

Thanks for the help guys. The 700 is the same tractor as the 400, just differant tin and seat.I always thought it should be able to lift the tractor on the down preasure side. Now I know for sure. What I think the problem is,is that the down preasure relief ball isn't holding.Maybe the spring has lost its tension. When I get time I will see what I can do.For now I'm useing the tractor every day and don't have time to monkey with it.If you want I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
