Wanting to start a new project and was wondering where to start. Would like a little input on what other engine other than the stock set up you can go with. Wanting to build something to pound on the local JD Bs

148 engine from a Case 300. Otherwise bore it and stroke it. I've heard close to 200 doing this.

Not to rain on your parade, but not exactly the best choice for a puller in the 3000 group. Small diameter tires (28) = poor ground grip, you can change to larger but then lose the torque. Limited strength bull gears = can't take a whole bunch.

I suspect with the right amount of cutting and removing and $'s you can get a 2500 lb puller that will run well, but not many compete below 3000 in my area.

There are others on this board with WAY more experience than me. If you want to "pound on a Deere" get yourself a WD45.

I seen a VAC in Akron Ohio NATPA pull with 13.6x28 on it beat a Super C with 13.6x38 that was powered by a C-153!!! I Also know of a 201 powered VA with a few cubes that pulls at 10 MPH in the 3750lb class in 2nd gear! So Never Count them out!!!

dctom- How much does your VAC puller with the 201 weigh again? How much does she pull on the sled? Thanks!
