Getting ready to do brake/clutch job on 977h. My first. With the rear inspection plates off I notice that
the brake band tightens up before the steering clutch disengages. Shouldn't the clutch disengage first?? The pedal is at very end of travel before
I notice clutch movement-u can feel on brake when clutch moves. Whats best way to rotate sprocket/tracks to access all the bolts on steering clutches?? Can you jack up one side & move tracks??

Yes! Clutches should be released before the brakes begins to apply. You can jack up the side your working on but I ususally just moved the tractor ahead on the ground. It shouldn't move more than a foot or so for one turn of the clutch shaft.

I have an old H with dry clutches. When I did mine, I hired a guy with a big ol' tow truck to winch it forward a bit at a time to get the flange bolts off, and while he was here I had him lift the seat/tank off for me too. Cost about $80, and worth every dime. I figured moving 20-25 tons of steel by hand just wasn't worth it.

I have always used a bottle jack at the rear of the machine catch the edge of the grouser a little bit will move the clutch a lot.

The cleat on the track pad. They have a single, a double, or a triple grouser or cleat. Of course some wore out ones may have no grousers because they are wore off.But if you put the jack at the back of the track at a angle pushing forward you can uasally catch enough to move it.I have even caught a track pad bolt and moved them before.
