Our Case 450 crawler/loader has a pin hole leak in the fuel tank. The diesel fuel is dripping out in the battery box. If the machine has 5 or 6 gallons in it there is no leak noticable. When the tank is full the leak is a constant small drip. I've been told that JB Weld can solve the trouble from the outside of the tank. To clean the area real good and wipe it down with solvent before putting the stuff over the area. Sound right? Is there a product out there that I can paint on the inside of the tank? Does anyone sell an epoxy coating I could use? Looks to me that I could get to the spot where the leak may be. Both the inspection hole on the bottom of the tank, and the tank fill hole could give some decent access. Any tips or advice will help. Mike

When I used to repair fuel tanks in the Air Force we used to use a temporary fix on the aircraft. First you clean the area around the leak about 2", then stop the leak with a stopleak stick call oilyte, a hard vegetable base sealant that does dry. Then get the JB weld mixed up, apply to small piece of Aluminum foil smaller that the area cleaned, roll foil patch over leacking area, then cover patch with remaining JB weld. I fixed a good many C130's with this patch, not to mention Uniloaders and crawlers. Besides, I wasn't about to go welding on a fuel tank, someone even tried to tell me that it was safe once and wouldn't burn, my response was is that a fact, how does that engine run if the fuel is not flamable, I finished putting on the patch which stooped the leak and went on my way.
