I have recently pulled the engine and the reverser out of my loader. Its a JD 350B track loader. The machine sat idle for a number of months throught the winter before I could get to work on it. I replaced seals on both ends of the reverser and the gaskets on the controller. I put everything back in and now the machine will not move. The reverser is not coming out of neutral. It is not anything to do with the tranny or the coupler and the internal pump is fine. I have yet to check my hydraulic pressure in the reverser but I don't believe the pressure is the problem. Any suggestions?

does it make any noise whatsoever when you shift the reverser ??? Did you drop the splined coupling that joins the reverser to the gearbox when removing it ???? maybe??? I wouldnt get into shimming the pressure regulator as that would just be masking maybe another problem....

I know I didn't drop the coupling, I knew I had to watch it when I put reverser back in. I'm going to did up a gauge hopefully this weekend or early next week. I suspect the pressure is low. The reverser is not engaging whatsoever. I'm of the opinion right now is that the fluid is just dumping due to low pressure or the valves could be stuck.
Thanks Steve for the pressure readings . I'll keep at it, theres something I'm missing but I don't think I'm far off.

Mark,
Why did you have the motor and reverser out?

I took the engine out to change the front seal on the reverser. I put the engine back in after changing the seal and it wouldn't move. So, to make a long story short I have eliminated all possibilities I can think of and now I'm at a loss as to why the reverser won't engage. I'm going to try shimming the valves to try and increase the hydraulic pressure next.

Mark is the reverser building hydro pressure? I know you can check by putting a gauge on the reverser hydro line. I'm not sure what pressure you need but I can check for you. I would agree with Johnathan. You might have dropped the coupling, upon putting the reverser back in.I know it's a pain in the but, but you may have to pull that motor and slide reverser forward a few inches to take a look. Make yourself some 3/4" studs from threaded rod around 8" long. thread those into trans, where reverser and trans bolt together. It will now be easier to slide the reverser back to check the coupling. Make sure coupling has snap ring in center. This keeps it from sliding back and forth.

Reverser System Pressure Test:
O.k. Here goes.
Reverser clutch oil regulator valve test=
To test pressure, remove pipe plug above rotary valve arm on accumulator housing and attach hose adaptor from pressure gauge. Guage should have at least 160 psi capacity.Run engine at 2650 rpm and work reverser lever back and forth.Check the pressure Maximum readings on the gauge when clutch packs are engaged in both forward and reverse. The readings in both cases should be 110-130 psi. Hope that helps
