Does anyone have any information or pictures of the Bristol Taurus crawler?
I think it had a 3 cylinder Perkins engine for power and 3 pt links and PTO and was sold in the '60s.

Just interested to know if anyone else recalls this machine

Sorry it has taken so long to reply.
The engine in your machine is the 3.152 perkins diesel engine.
You should be able to buy the original parts or after market parts for this engine as they are available at a reasonable price.
The steering clutches: It is best to take the seat off and take the 2 plates off under the seat don't touch the centre plate - (it is too your bevel gear). You can remove the steering clutches once the plates have been removed with a little bit of work and lots of frustration.
The steering clutches may need to be rebuilt and to my knowledge there are no parts available, but you are able to get steering clutches cut out of other similar material from a similar size steering clutch.
The track marshall 1100 is the identical machine as the bristol taurus M2 except for a few cosmetic adjustments and some other minor adjustments.

Thanks for coming back to me. I tried to send you some photos but this site won't let me. Perhaps if I could have your personal e-mail you could look at them and let me know if I have a mark 1 or 2? I'm new to crawlers and tractors are my "speciality" so to speak. I'm about to make new pins and bushes - to tighten everything up and the next task is to persuade my wife to make new seats - perhaps I'll have more luck making the pins and bushes...

I am currently restoring a Bristol Taurus BS404.
I have loads of information on the Bristol crawlers, mostly on the Taurus.

I have information on the PD48 and the Bristol Taurus BS 404 and the 405 and the Bristol Taurus mark II. There was also 5 earlier models which I have limited information on.
Is it possible to send me a photo of the machine you have? This will enable me to know what machine you have.

I realise this thread is a couple of years old, but my father has recently bought a Bristol Taurus MkII. We have absolutely no paperwork or manuals for it. Could you tell me what info you have on it?

I have the parts and operators manuals for the Mark 11.
The workshop manuals I have never been able to find however the parts manual is pretty self explanatory.

Im Restoring a Bristol Tauus Drott with 4 in 1 attachment which my grandfather purchased new in the early sixties. at the moment im rebuilding the perkins engine, i would be interested in a copy of the opertors hand book and any other information as all i have is a copy of the spare parts book.

Do you know what the approximate weight is of a Bristol Taurus crawler? In the early 1980's I used an old Bristol Taurus (1950's - 1960's ??) crawler to prepare a forestry research trial in Maramarua Forest, New Zealand. I'm trying to write up the long-term results of the trial but never recorded the BT's weight originally. Can anybody help.

The weight of the Bristol Taurus BS404 WEIGHT (approximate) 9900 lbs (4490.6KGs).
The Bristol Taurus was not available until 1964.
Is it the weight of a Bristol PD 48 that you require.
The PD 48 were a 4 speed gear box and the Bristol Taurus was a 10 speed, if this helps.

The Bristol Taurus crawler we had on our pineapple farm in Aus. had six forward and four reverse gears. It had a 540/100 rpm pto and three point linkage.It had a three cylinder perkins with indirect injection. About the only thing I didn't rebuild was the gearbox. Dam fine little machine.

I know that I am a long time after this thread. But I have a '65

taurus that I got a couple of months back. Just recond the injectors and got it running. The right track clutch is not opening so I am steering with the left and foward, reverse. I have got a basic handbook for the mk2 and am going to try to reset the play on the hand levers. At the moment its got WD40 on the lock nuts. Any ideas why the clutch should stick closed or any tricks short of a complete strip and re-build??

I expect you have had a look now but it is not difficult to take the seat off and the top panel above the non working sterring drive. it is not a clutch as such but a stirrup that locks the main clutch/drive on which ever side you want to turn into. While you are in the box the handbrake linings should be taken out and checked or replaced rgds Richard Stacey Mark two owner and one with and MF digger stuck on the back!

Well I have now examined the engine with our local expert and its clear that the compression is gone. It would not start even on gas. Valves seem to be seating ok and tappet clearance is alright. Next step is to turn it over fast and see if its blowing from the dip stick hole, ie via the bores or if its the head gasket dead. If its the bores I just do not have time to rebuild it, nor the inclination with so many other things on so sadly it will go as scrap.

IF ANYBODY WANTS THIS FOR SCRAP VALUE (�600) THEN LET ME KNOW SOON AND IT NEEDS TO BE PICKED UP.

NOT SO FAST!! I have now got the engine out and am spending money getting it rebuilt by a local expert (hope) workshop.

I just could not see it go under on my shift! I'll let you know how it gets on. The bores were glassy from low oil pressure and no 2 to 3 head was blowing thru. Its getting new liners(one fell out), pistons rings, all bearings plus head and block skim and crank regrind along with a new oil pump and any other bits we can think of. It will cost more than I paid for the machine... but thats only money!

I managed to get enough take up on the top adjuster for now but now have engine problems. I have got recon' injectors but it still is hell to start (spray gas needed and I HATE THAT). Low oil pressure and hard to re start. It looks like a rebuilt engine is needed and I have never done one and really do not have the time. I am trying to identify which massey tractor has the same engine. I think its a 3.152 TA

The engine in a massey 135 is a direct injection version of the engine. Should produce another 5 hp. Parts are readily available for the three cyl perkins engine.

I own a Bristol Taurus which is in working order. It's not original - the 3 cylinder Perkins has been replaced by a 4 cyclinder Perkins, the front blade is not standard, and it has a protective cabin. However it goes well. I could supply a photo if you are interested.
