Starter full of oil is not a normal thing. Even on the leaky old Detroits, 271 and the 471. If you are leaking oil that bad to sling it back into the armature then you have a very leaky rear main. Take the trany inspection plate off and see how much oil is in there On the bottom there should be an opening. If you have a lot of dirt in the belly pan then it will be pluged and you will have a lot of oil and water in there. As for the starter. They used the Old ACDelco kick starter. The 271 starter are getting scare but I as of two weeks ago I knew where the was one in a 5b that had been ripped in half. Owner tried moving while it was still frozen to the ground and hooked on to the tractor frame and not the blade. Ouch. Minnpar will have some parts, but you have to go through a dealer to get the parts. They have seals and other things but some parts are very scare, like rubber parts for the trany, gears parts for the trany, roller --non existent--.... Let me know drott@ibdozing.com
