HI,

I have a 73 JD 500C backhoe. I cannot seem to get it started without ether, even with the hydr pump disengaged, in summer , or in winter when it is plugged in. A friend said I have to use ether because I have low compression (rings are shot)? But I dont know if this is true because it has plenty of power when it is running. ?????
Once it has been running for a minute or two, it does not need ether. ???

Also, for easier starting I have been running Chevron Delo 5/40 synthetic oil. I was told to always run 15/40 oil. I would hate myself for any motor damage caused by running a synthetic oil. Do any of you run synthetic oil in older machines. I have a 1955 tractor as well that I am running this oil in as well. Your advice on these questions would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
john
