Got the 580 D swing cylinder apart and lo and behold, I have a broken cylinder rod. My dealer tells me this happens when replacement pins are too tight. Anyone heard of this?... Learned a valuable lesson. Stay away from after-market parts. First, the bushings would not fit, ruined them trying to install them. went to Case bought factory bushings for 50 cents apiece less than the aftermarkets. Tried to use the after-market pins...too tight... caused me to bust a cyl. rod ....$350 dollar lesson.....

hard for me to believe tnat you could break a swing rod with aftermarket parts being that tight you would have to put them in with a big hammer for that to happen. look at the up and down movement on the swing tower it self that usually is the culprit needs shims in top pin

But you know what is really funny? When I worked for Case, they bought out IH and their oil company. The IH folks were always saying that the TCH fluid that Case used was junk and that HyTrans was so much better. Problem was, Case couldn't get their CE units to hold up under testing with the Hytrans so they were forced to keep the TCH. Boy did that ever get to those IH goats. The IH boys did win out though, they got Case to get rid of all of their company stores even though 40% of the sales went through those stores and the company stores weren't to profitable because the stores income paid for all of the Case company benefits. Sometimes it really makes you wonder where management gets their ideas.

here is my 2 cents, case makes great construction equipment, but there ag line struggled, that is why "tenneco oil" cases parent co. purchased IH, they needed a full line, from a planter to a combine to stay in the ag market.
they have reformulated hytran 2 or 3 years ago so it is now a replacement for tch in all applications except crawlers with wet brakes.
as for company stores I worked at a company store from 1992 to 1996 and the reason "tenneco oil" was getting rid of the stores was, case was in money trouble AGAIN and it took a seprate division of case just to run the company stores.
they were tired of the headache and expence so as a cost cutting measure they were sold.
so as an old "IH goat" I think without the purchase of IH, steiger, concord, dmi, and so on, case would probably be nothing but a construction equipment maufacturer now days.

Sorry for all of the bitterness towards the IH side of the house but after working at the company store level from 1979 to 1990, then as a service rep from 1990 to 1991, and then to be let go for downsizing of which was mostly older Case employees, it hurt alot. Especially after working at two very profitble company stores and advancing from Service tech, Parts Manager, and Store controller. The second store was quite a thrill to be a part of which started out without the CE or utility contract and doing $15m in business where the majority of tractors sold was the 72 hp 885. And when I was the Service rep, my area had 58% market share of the magnum class tractor and 80% market share for combines. Of the combines I was told that Case had that kind of market share before they decided to be tractor specialists in the seventies so I don't think that IH completely saved Case for old Case employees look at it the other way. For proof, most old Case employees will tell you the Dodge is using the CDC engine. Again, sorry for the attitude.
