My late uncle collected tractors, mostly junk, but there are 2 TD9's and a nice TD6. The family is thinking of getting a scrap dealer to haul the whole lot away. I'm concerned my aunt won't get full value for the TD6 or that it might actually be scrapped. It's an unrestored very early (1939?) TD6 with silver horizontal bars in the grille and small black headlights. My grandfather bought it new and it's still on the same farm. My uncle was still using it occasionally to move stuff around the yard about a year ago. I've never seen another TD6 like this. A 1950 my grandfather bought later had a solid red grille and the large red headlights. Is this a rare crawler worth preserving? Is it worth more than a typical late 40's early 50's TD6? I spent many a day on this tractor as a kid doing field work and regret that my circumstances don't allow me to buy it.

A scrap dealer will not pay crap for it. offer your aunt 100-200 dollars for it that is likely more than a scrap man will give.Heck more than he will get when he shreds it. Worth a try.

I think the scrap dealer wont give anyhting
for them. You should just put an ad for $500
a piece, and she will prob make out better. Maybe get her to give you the td6 for selling
the other two.

the TD-6 didnt come into production till mid 1940. where is the equipment located? from your discription it sounds like it may be a T 30.

I don't know the exact dates of manufacture and was just guessing 1939 because I know it is one of the earliest TD6's. I would still like to hear from someone who knows about the three wide silver bars in the grille. I believe these bars were in all IH tractors of that era (M, WD6, WD9 etc.), but they're always red. This is the only one I've seen with the silver ones. Sorry I don't have a digital picture to post.

Henry, They painted the bars on the grill of the crawlers "aluminum" until we got into WWII and then they discontinued the practice due to trouble getting the paint.

Clark, --- 31 / March / 2003 ---

I never heard of a International T 30 crawler, but do remember the IH "T-20", the "T-35 (and TD-35)", and the "T-40" and "TD-40" crawlers.

I think what you were refering to was the IH "T-20" crawler.

But, again, I may be wrong.

Regards, Milton
