That sounds reasonable, depending on condition.

I bought a 580C, all rebushing'd, vibrator
tamper, and extendahoe, for 14k, with 4k
hours on the unit.

That unit is just a workhorse!

Jeff,
How do you go about finding a machine such as yours in the shape and price range that you found your backhoe for?? Yep, this is a naive question, but there must be an art to finding good equipment at a reasonable price. "Machinery Trader" doesn't seem to help, it's just a place to start.

good olde dumb luck...

I was lucky to find a contractor that had just
plunked 6k into fixing up his backhoe for
one job, and then sold the business.

And yes, I actually had the receipt for the 6k
he put into it (and talked to the shop that
did it.

Honestly, I find its just patience.

Everyone here (in seattle area) told me I'd
never find a good bull dozer for 12k.

I wound up finding a nice Dresser TD7e,
motors abit tired, but 80% undercarriage
for 12500, repainted.

All I've done is rebushing the hand controls,
and tighten up the front wear plates.

Ok, so I should put new pins and bushings
in the front blade, as they are abit loose,
but for the amount I use it, its fine as is.

Also I had a low hours Kobelco 60 fall in my lap,
again, just luck.

I think its just patience, and being ready
when the deal fall sin your lap.
