I have been looking for a backhoe with 4-in-1 bucket, but am wondering if add-on hydraulic fingers would do just as will for picking up items? This forum seems to be the place to get answers. Any comments, suggestions or appreciated.

If your just picking up id go with the grapple, a 4in1 is handy with grading and graping but some things it wont grasp. I make a few grapples in the winter and to avoid using a poerbyond and more pluming I use a solenoid valve from Surplus Center that allows you to T off from your dump cylinder lines with short hoses and to actuate the grapple you press a button then move you dump valve lever. It works good and saves alot of hydraulic lines and manual valves.

Walt, A 4in1 are rather heavy compared to a standard bucket, and I personally wouldn't have one!! But others might like them. I put a set of forks on my JD 210-E and they also fit on my Ford Ind. grading tractor. I can use them for moving pallets, logs, pipe, plywood, and just about anything else.the forks set cost about 500.00 and a 4in1 is a lot more. just my .02 cents worth.

depends on what you want to do with it. The 4-in-one can do grading and other things as well as just grip things. The 4-in-one's are not all that easy to find, at least not around here. (Northern NY). It would probably be easier to just put on the hydraulic grapple on your existing loader, but then you need an extra hydraulic outlet to work it. You'd have to plumb it in, power beyond fitting, etc.
just my $0.02
