I had a friend that had one of these machines and I believe he sold it for $3000. It was gas and was very difficult to operate with very little power. If this is going to be a weekend type of project or short term, my recommendation is to rent a newer model machine such as a John Deere 450H,550H or CAT D4G, D5G. These newer machines are very easy to operate and will get the job done in 1/10th the time. Plus, if something breaks, they bring you another machine. Buying an old machine like this sometimes turns into a money pit and you never get the work done you wanted to. If you have additional time such as a month, the long term leases become very attractive. Your operating cost/hourly rate goes way down to as low as $16 per hour for a very nice machine. Believe me, there is a lot of difference between a day on an older machine and a day on a newer machine. Not just in what you have accomplished but in how you feel physically. Go to a rental yard and run a new machine for a few minutes and then go run the Case. Imagine this for 8 hours or more and then make your decision. The other issue is after you have bought the Case and you are finished with it, you then have to find a buyer for it. If you have put another $5000 into it to keep it running, you still have a $5000 machine. $5000 will buy you a lot of rental time without the headaches. Just some considerations.... Good Luck on your decision!!
