i have oil leaking out from between the final and the frame, not the final mind you.... i drained the final and oil was still coming out from between the two while the eingine was running, so i pulled the plug that is right above the final..... like on the transmission???..... and hydraulic oil just kept flowing out till i plugged it back in.... a friend told me that there is a hose on the brake inside there that could be leaking.... then he procceeded to tell me i had to pull the rops, fuel tank... batt box ect. to reach the cover plate... i can see the cover plate when i remove the seat.... how much of a task is it to remove this cover plate without removing almost the entire operators station and is this hose that bad to change... need to get the machine on a job on monday.... ps i just repainted her and if anyone is interested in it after i fix this leak give a holler ask price is $13,500 with a backhoe attachment- rich

..You have to see where the oil is coming from exactly. There is a center transmission case. Outside of that are the steering clutch housings on either side.Bolted to those are the final drive assemblies. the steering clutch oil and transmission oil intermix. The final drive oil is all by itself. In the steering clutch housing is a line that is connected to those small steel tubes in the center of the transmission rear cover under the seat. The pressurize the steering clutches and the pressure is shut off when a lever is pulled. There is a small passage between the steering clutch housing and the transmission case that allows normal leakage past the steering clutch seals to leak back to the transmission. On older 450C's there is a small return hose that can be eliminated if disassembled. If there is a problem with the steering clutch...worn piston seals or a broken/worn pressure hose, too much oil is dumped into the clutch housing and the small return passage cant handle the flow...this can cause external leakage. Or the clutch housing to transmission case bolts could be loose causing the leak....or the final drive to steering clutch housing bolts may be loose....easiest access method is to remove fuel tank, battery box, and hydraulic tank as an assembly if you have to get into the steering clutches themselves. Also have to break the track and remove the sprockets to remove the steering clutches....its a big job.
