I need to replace the track chain bushings and pins on a 79 case 450 dozer. The question I have, would it be cheaper to pay having the bushings replaced or try to replace the complete chains. I've cannot find any used tracks and chain rails in my area. If anyone knows of any used or after market parts or ideals of replacing the bushings,Please let me know. The dozer is used only on the farm and only used twice a month. I hate to put all new rails on this dozer. Thanks for any helpful info.

Just wanted to throw my nickle in, I've got a case 350, that needs rollers, but while I was at the case place here in fredricksburg va, they had a new set of complete tracks on a pallett outside for a 450, as best I remember the complete set was 17-1800.00, might be the fastest, cheapest way to go.
if mine ever needs extensive track work, I believe I'll just buy the complete set, and get all the parts needed.

Marlowe, Thanks for the response. After I saw that you had rebuilt the chain, I called the nearest dealer about the bushings and pins and he quoted somewhere in the $500.00 to $600.00 range on aftermarket parts. If you know a place with a better price please let me know at Bhudd@TWLakes.Net. Also, did you install your own bushings and pins or did you get someone to do it for you? Thanks for any helpful info. Dan

Dan-O: You listed your thoughts, but no info to help answer your questions.
1. Where are your located?
2. What is your s/n #? May not be needed, but helps to know for sure.
3. What is your link height measurement?
4. Did you know there is up to 3 dirrerent styles of rails, each with their own p&b to fit your machine.
5. Is there a part# on the links?
With these questions answered I'm sure you can more answers from us. Let us all know. HT

Halftrack, Sorry about the delay, I've been out of town. The dozer I've got has the s/n# 3040969. The links has a # 1 745-a-2 on the left side and "simmel CA4A.7E" on the right side. The length between the center of the holes which bolts the track pads down are 3 1/4 " between the front bolts and the same on the back holes. The center between the link pins appear to be 6". I have not got the link height at this time. I live near Cookeville TN. Thanks for any helpful info. Dan

Dan-O, a couple of things. The first is your 450 is 1969 model, by your s/n you listed. The year 1969 started with s/n# 3039456 & 1970 started with s/n# 3042701. You listed your machine as a 1979 which Case started that year with s/n # 3069001, which was a 450B.
Your pitch new is 5.875". Your link height new is 3.156". The bolt holes are 3.312" L to R & 2.250" front to back. You only have one choose of p&b's on you machine if you posted the rite s/n.
Your local track should no problem of getting what you might need. Hope you diidn't buy your machine based on being a 1979 model.. HT

Half Tracks, The S/N# was correct. The man I bought the 450 from did not know the year, but he thought it was from the 70's. A dealer whom I bought parts from said it was a 79. What ever the year, the little dozer has done well and has paid for it-self so far. I will try to have the rails re-built soon. Thanks for all the info. Dan-o
