Hello all, I recently bought a Case 580D backhoe in pretty good shape. In the last week, I've changed all the fluids and decided today to flush the radiator. I've read about liner erosion due to cavitation, so I bought some stuff called FLEET CHARGE at O'Reilly's. It is anti-freeze with the SCA (supplemental coolant additive) already in it to prevent cavitation. First, I drained the existing green antifreeze, and flushed the radiation with Prestone Superflush and water. After the engine got nice and warm, I drained the flush stuff and added straight water and got the engine warm again. Then repeated again with straight water. I allowed the engine to cool between each time I drained the cooling system. After the flush cycle and both the water cycles, the coolant never looked dirty or oily. I pretty much decided I wasted my time with the radiator flush. Then I added a 50/50 mix of the Fleet Charge and distilled water (purple color). After starting the engine and getting it warm, I checked the radiator and the coolant was black and oily! I checked the engine oil and there's no water in it. I'm not loosing any antifreeze like it's leaking internally. The engine runs great, no difference. No exhaust difference. It's almost like the Fleet Charge is dissolving stuff that was already coated inside my radiator. Any ideas? Is this stuff doing damage to my radiator? Thanks in advance for any help.

You Can't Fix Whats Not Broke in reply to Darylc, 05-12-2007 19:47:26
I would flush everything out and just fill with a good quality antifreeze and water, all antifreeze nowerdays have a rust inhibitor in them and is good enough on their own.
