Here are a couple pictures of my 1966 450 dozer. This is the one that is in need to steering clutch rebuild on both sides. The tranny only goes in Low and High no Reverse. The motor runs great though. How do the track adjusters look?

put a ROPS cab on before you use it; they save lives. pipes, logs, etc. come back over the forks or bucket & crush the operator

Everything is done from the front of the machine..Nose off , engine out ,dashboard off, clutch housing out,..Then start on the transmission..I'd leave the tanks on unless you have to get to the steering clutches..You have a loader service manual is why it doesn't show dozer tank removal.Everything is the same..The only reason I'd take tanks off an early "loader" is I can't fit between the tanks and loader uprights to work on the transmission.." We've gotten a little thicker in our old age"...Roy

If the tranny isnt too much of a big deal ($$$) then I will also be fixing both steering clutches. Thanks for your help so far everyone.

The broken piece under the idler slide is a wear strip. It is a high carbon steel, weld it down with a stainless steel or high nickel cast iron welding rod. Heat it red hot and flatten it out with a hammer first.

What do think about the track adjusters? They area heavily rusted and pitted. What is the broken piece in the second picture do? I was reading the manual for instructions to remove the seat and fuel tank platform, the manual only says to disconnect the hydraulic lines on the crawler-loader model. Why doesnt it give instruction for mine?
