Cat D3B oil cooled clutch conversion questions

Has anyone converted a D3B 27Y007xx to oil cooled clutches/brakes or know what parts are required?

I have the Cat service and parts manuals but it doesn't cover the differences on the oil cooled verses the dry clutches. There is a different disassembly and assembly procedures for the oil and dry clutches but they look the same to me.

How much of what kind of oil? Can I just put a seal on the brake band rest and just dump the oil in?

Do the oil cooled clutches and brakes work any better or last any longer? Different friction materials? The parts book only shows one kind.

Any information would be appreciated.

The clutches have different friction discs and the brake drums and bands are different too. You would need to get a hole machined in each cover to put the oil in. There are 1/4"NPT plugs on each side of the case to check the oil level. The brake band support bolts should be removed and replaced with a short bolt and washer, lock tight would seal the threads. You need to set up the linkage to brakes very carefully so that your peddal travel is clearance between the band and drum not slack in the linkage. The bands will run tight and ruin the drums on oil clutches not seize up like the dry clutches if they are not adjusted right.
