Crawler dumper or dump truck?

I'm going to be looking for either a used dump truck or a Morooka type crawler dumper to use off road. I have an M-X track and need to move a lot of material. One bucket at a time with the Cat or skid steer is too slow. I think a crawler dumper would be the cat's meow but I don't know much about them. They're supposed to be good in mud and soft ground. Does anyone have any experience with them? Good points/bad points? Thanks. Dave

Hey Dave, Lot of cranberry guys use track dumpers - morukas. Most of them come from Japan. Lots of different guys bringing in containers of them and other small excavation stuff from Japan.
Try dieselcrawlers.com. This is only one of many companies bringing equipment in.

A military surplus 2 1/2 ton or 5 ton 6 x 6 dump should be perfect for your needs at a minimal price. Check somewhere like Memphis Equipment Company (on the web) or other military surplus dealers depending on where you are. If you find a tracked dump, it will be more manuverable, but, will be much more expensive to buy and to operate.

I've got a deuce-and-a-half with a dump mechanism. It'll go anywhere you point it. Much faster than track, but takes considerable room to turn.

Kinda depends on how far you're hauling. My truck's ideal for me. Very inexpensive to operate.

Forgot to mention that I got into one job where there wasn't enough room for the truck.

My 2 yd rubber-tire loader was exactly right. Kept up with a mid-sized excavator. Though that might have been partly due to the operator.

Ritchie Bros. auctions off a lot of them. At their website you can register, then look for "auction results". Then pick construction equipment & look them up. Will have prices & model #'s by brand, for all sold in last 2 yrs. rbauction.com
