Ok y'all, I got this thing just bout done and I buy this grill name plate that needs to have the background painted black for my 1945 A

I got me a couple a artist brushes and some black gloss enamel artist paint and have gotten results in the first corner that look like my first attempt at arc welding in the ninth grade.

Is there a better way?

The man that does this for a living told me to spray the whole thing black and then wait two minutes and wipe off the raised surfaces with a rag. Haven't tried it yet but he guaranteed it. DAVE

get a stamp pad and soak it with black paint and roll the emblem on the pad like a rubber stamp.

I need to do this too. What I'm going to try is putting grease on the letters and spray it and let it dry. Then come back and wipe the grease off.

I've found that finger nail polish brushes work well for this type of work. When my wife is done with a bottle, I save the brush. They wor well for containing small amounts of touch up paint too.

A-Bob, Patience my friend, I've found it easier at times to spray the entire piece with gloss or flat black enamel paint. Let it dry several days and then take a rather hard foam roller dipped in aluminum paint and go very lightly over the surface of the name plate. The high areas are all that you want the aluminum paint on. With practice you'll become a pro.//FB

Or maybe spray the whole thing and then wipe the paint off the raised letters with a solvent-dampened rag. I did this with the emblem on my old GMC 910 pickup.

Thanks for the suggestions. Everything I've tried so far looks crude. I've had the sheetmetal professionally painted in a heated booth and it looks so great, this damn little plate looks terriable. Thanks, A-Bob
