When I bought my #2424 IND. last year, I commented to the seller that it sounded like A 2cyl johnypopper. No comment in return. It`s allways been a little down on power too I think. Yup. Half of 25hp. is 12 or so right? A year later I do A compresson test, (too much trouble to take it with me when I shop) #1-55psi, #2-110, #3-55 #4-120. Now A little foam in the rad, no green stuff in the amber stuff yet though. No smoke ever, in A year of average use. My question is, what are the chances this is just A head gasket, not A broken head or warped block. PS. this is A C-146 eng. Thanks in advance, cross your fingers, J.

Have you tried a cylinder leakage test yet? There are gauges made which will give you a percent of air going into the cylinder. you already know you have a problem, this can be done simply. Pull the plugs, bring a piston to top dead center on the compression stroke and introduce some compressed air to the cylinder. It is easy to make a fitting from an old spark plgu to do this or some parts stores have a tool for this. with air going in listen for escaping air. If it is in the exhaust or intake it is the respective valve. Air in the crankcase, air is going past the rings, bubbles in the radiator the head is crached or blown head gasket. Good luck, ask if you need further help. Doc.

Have you pulled the valve cover to check the valve clearances and the to make sure all the push rods are in place and not bent??

My guess is stuck and or burned exhaust valves.
