I am looking for any info you might have on the International 826. When were they built, how much horsepower, turbocharged etc. Were they a good tractor? They seem to be quite rare from what I have heard or seen. How do they compare to the 806 or 856? The ones I have seen look similar to the 856. Any info or viewpoints would be appreciated. Thank you, Al

We have two 826's one is a gold demo. Both were rebuilt around 3000 hours. Cylinder sleeve O-rings
were leaking common problem with the german motor.
Otherwise very good tractors.

According to Ralph Sanders book Vintage International Harvestor tractors, the 826 was introduced in 1969 together with the 1026. They were equiped with a hydrostatic transmission. .According to Ken Updikes book International Harvestor tractors 1955 -1985. page 54 the 826 Hydro had 84.66 PTO power Nebraska Test number 1046.Only 2414 Farmall units of the 1026 were made. and only 58 International versions were made.but back to the 826 "the 826 hydrostatic drive tractor was rated at 84PTO horsepower. Using either a German built D358 naturally aspirated diesel six cylinder engine or a C301 IH built gasoline engine the 826 Hydro was the perfect choice for those who needed hydro power in a midsized tractor." About 2 yrs ago a John Deere dealer at Belle Plain Minn had at least 2 of them. They were (painted yellow) and used by the metropolitan airport for snow removal.

I grew up on an 826. Ours had the German diesel engine which had more lugging power than my uncle's 4020. And it had the 4x2 transmission w/ a T/A. It was a sad day when Dad had the sale and saw it go.

Most of the 826's that my eyes have seen had a 4 speed gearbox with a 2 speed fwd range selector with the TA.

And I bet most if not ALL of them had the D358 diesel too. I can't remember ever seeing a gas 826 anywhere. I did see a real nice 766 gas with CAB at a dealer west of here about 10 yr. ago. Imagine what it would cost to feed one of those thirsty Gas Monsters now? The fact a D358 could outpull a 4020 doesn't surprise me. Neighbor had a 756 that would run circles around His 4020 Power Shift. D-358 really took to turbocharging too!
