Can you use 5 of 10w-30 in the engine of a C or do you need to run straight 30 weight? And then there is the question of detergent or non-deterdent. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Use detergent 30 wt oil in your C. Don't use the multivis oil. Unless you are in a very cold climate, the 30 wt will do the year round.

I do not know what kind of oil is currently in the engine. My grandfather was the previous owner and he died last year.

If the rocker arm area is pretty clean, he was probably using detergent SAE 30. Congrats on getting your Grandfather's tractor!!

Is there any concerns with using a multi-weight oil? Like 5W-30

Aaron: I think many feel that 5-30 is too thin in these older USED engines. They were not built as tight. The 5 weight is nice for those auto engines where city people just have to be up to 80mph within seconds of starting it up on a Winter morning. (that a fact..not a joke) I just drove 2250 miles this last 6 days and 80mph is normal for women with car full of kids. 90mph for guys. They need 5-30 and a brain exam. R.
