I'm still looking for a M/Super M/MTA. I have about decided to concentrate on an MTA because I would like to have a nice 80 or 82 IH combine to go behind it one day and the live PTO and TA would be nice. Anyway, What are the going prices for MTA's in your respective areas? How much does a bad TA drive the price down? I have a lead or two but have been warned that a good TA will increase asking price significantly! Also, if the TA is bad, won't one run indefinately in direct drive or is it a catastrophic failure waiting to happen?

thanks,
Al

Al, if you decide the price of an SM or SMTA is too high for you, I have a '41 M for sale - it is listed in the photo ads and is located in East Tennessee. I just used it and my 7' trailer-type sickle bar mower to cut two acres last weekend - works like a champ! Good luck on your search.

I restored a SMTA a rebuilt torque will run you near $500.00. They are a nice tractor but I found that plow and pulling the better tractor to me would be a SM with live Hydrolics and live PTO. This is My experience. I wish you the best in finding the SMTA. Note: one more thing their is SMTA and MTA. Different motor sizes.

No such thing as an "M-TA", only Super M-TA, "M's" built from 1939 to early 1952, Super M's built in 1952 & 1953. Super M-TA's built in 1954. 400's built in 1955 & 56. Super M's and Super M-TA's had 264 CID engines and disc brakes. M's had 248 cid engines and band brakes. Super M-TA's were avail With and Without the TA and Live PTO. Guy Fay's book, The Letter Series Restoration Guide is pretty clear on all this.

Al, A straight M in my area is going for $1500
I know of a SMTA w/an aftermarket WFE for $2950. The tractor looks really abused. I bought a M that is in super condition with a well made 3pt, a MW clutch, and power steering from a local farmer for $2500. I wanted a 300/350400/450. I could not find any nice ones. The abused started at $3000! 10 years ago, we bought a 300 w/ 8ft rotary mower for $1100! Prices are going up. Thanks for reading my story and best of luck in your search.
PS I hope to post pics of my M soon! PSS I'm in Western PA.

Al: You picked the one that has about the most variable price of any rowcrop Farmall built. The price also depends a lot on what part of the USA your in. Complete TA's parts are under $1000 without any labor as I seem to remember. A 400 might be cheaper and is almost a carbon copy internal. I'll leave others guesstamate the price. Add "luck" at getting a good deal on this model. R.
