Does anyone have the production numbers on the 300 utility? I'm just curious as to how many were made. Gave out my first advice yesterday and it was wrong-feeling pretty low right now.

300U: 33176 made, supposedly all gas-powered.
350U: 18525 made, 12998 were gas-powered, diesel and LP were also made.

350U had only minor changes from the 300U. Data from Guy Fay's book, and another book on the Nebraska tractor tests that I have, but whose author I don't have at the moment.

I think one problem with the utilities that made them seem like they burn a lot of gas was the small gas tank.

Try leaning out your carb. Heck of a difference in gas used between full power setting (five full turns of main jet screw out from its seat) and light-duty setting (about 1-1/2 turns or so). If you aren't using the tractor for plowing or disking, or some other heavy-duty task, and you haven't made the adjustment for the lighter load, the excessive gas usage is your fault, not the tractor's.

In Ken Updike's book "IHC Number Series 1955-1985" He says there were more 300 Utilities made than 300 Farmalls, but I can't remember the number, seems like it was over 20,000 though. As far as Your 300U beeing hard on gas, You have to work them pretty hard to burn over 2 gal. an hour, but the Utilitys run faster than the Farmalls, 2000 RPM vs 1750, so they will burn around 3 GPH or a little more at full load.

Has your 300 U been turned up? I have a 350 Hi-Utility and it is rated at 1750 and won't turn any faster. I can't get mine to burn 3 gals an hour even plowing or disking. I pull 3-14's and a 10 ft wheel disk but it won't burn more than about 2 and a half gals per hour.
