Sorry to beat this to death, but still not clear on this and my tractor is 100 miles from home so can't run out and look. My owner's manual has no details on this. I was able to get some rim clamps to replace the ones I'm going to have to cut off, but no bolts, washers, nuts, etc. I'm pretty sure the originals have square heads. Do I need square head bolts or will hex head do? What size and grade do I need? Do I need lock washers, etc. I think I saw something in the archives about rim clamps being "double nutted". I don't recall seeing anything like that on mine. If this is the case, how and where should they be double nutted? Also, what is the proper orientation of these clamps--looks like the inside goes one way and the outside the opposite way, but I don't want to take anything for granted on whether this old tractor is set up correctly. Any and all help appreciated.

Thanks, guys. Now, I understand. I'm pretty sure I can get the square head bolts from Fastenal. I got some from them before for my "A". Now I just need to check with the dealer to see about the thin nuts. If they don't have them, I'll have some regular ones milled down like Chums5 was talking about. If the bolts don't have enough thread, any reason I can't use a die to thread the rest of the bolt?

It looks to me that any 5/8 x 5 bolt would do. But I didn't take one off to be sure.

glenshoe- I just went thru this same deal. The original square head bolts have more threads than a regular bolt you would get at the hardware store (to accomidate the 'thin nut'). The dealer said they couldn't get the bolts anymore, but they did have the 'thin nuts'. I have a fellas name at the house that I got 5 replacement square head bolts from, I'll put it on here if you need it. The only other option is buying a longer hex head bolt and using flat washers under the head. I didn't like the way that looked. Paul+

This is purely from memory, You should get an operator's manual to confirm this. The bole goes thru the one clamp half from the convex (dish out) side through the wheel and has a thin nut to hold that half of the clamp to the wheel. The other half of the clamp goes on after the rim and is followed with a lock washer only. And Yes, I think the bolts are square headed but the nuts are all hex nuts.
