last week I asked about adjusting my carb...I ended up purchasing a carb kit for the heck of it. It runs great after adjustment!!! Thanks a lot. I did order the IH book and belly Hydraulic pump cover gasket (it leaks bad).

Q. Do I refill with 30 wt?

Non-detergent SAE 30 for the belly pump. Some folks have had no problems with the hy-tran or hy-gard. It will be thinner and you might lose some pressure when it warms up.

For the hydraulic system you need to use hydraulic fluid...Hy-Tran or equivelent.

I read some place to use 30 wt oil, it did not sound right but I may have been mistaken...

The manual calls for 30 wt, non detergent oil. I had a IH service manager tell me this also and he added that if the 30 wt didn't work try 40 wt.

On the H & M series with belly pump, the owner's manual recommends 30wt non-detergent motor oil for the hydraulic system. I have been using a 30wt hydraulic oil, and it works great. Don't use detergent oil in the hydraulic system; it will foam. Lots of people use HyTran, but it may be a bit too light for the old system. You will get higher pressure with the 30wt.

For 12 years I have been struggling with reduced lift after the hy-tran warms up and now I understand why. I just tried the nondetergent 30 and it makes a huge difference.
