With today's unleaded 87 octane, 15s will probably be too cold and not fire well. Lately I have been using AC C86. If you like the Champion brand, use D21Y. Y stands for extended tip.

I don't run the Super H much, and all My old Kohler engines in My Cub Cadets have the unhardened valves and seats so I run a little leaded race gas with the no-lead I burn. They all seem to run Just like in the old days of 17 cent 87 Octane Leaded Regular! Wish I could say the same about ME!

I use to have a coffee can full of failed D15Ys from the early 1990s. I never had any luck with them.

Dad put new A-C's in His '51 M and still couldn't get it to run worth a darn. He took a set of My 2 yr. old D-15Y's out of the Coffeecan, cleaned them up and I think They're still in the M. We had the spark plug discussion at ihcubcadet.com about a month ago. I guess the new Champion plugs are not as good as the old plugs were. Sounded like everyone was using Autolite. I had one break a porcelein in a new pickup 12 yrs ago. I think I'll use NGK's. Never broke a Champion like that!

As a general rule, the harder and hotter you work the tractor, the colder the plugs. I have used D15s with good success even in light duty applications, D21s are better for oil burners and light duty.

I think everyone agrees that with Champs, you just about have to go with D21s...for some reason the colder plugs foul and sometimes don't work well for no aparent reason.

My Super M has D23's in it, Red usually suggests D21 for the H, I dunno what would be spec.
For what its worth my Super M usually runs really well and starts easy.

WOW!!! I didn't even know Champion made a plug that hot! All the lists I've seen show D-21 as hot as they go! My tired ol' Super H stll had a set of D-15Y's in it from many years ago. Starts & runs fine. Plugs probably have about 200 hrs on them. I used to put a new set in every fall when Dad farmed with it.

These plugs are probably 10 years old.
I thought they might be a bit hot, I hadn't looked at them before, but I knew that Red said D21. Maybe I'll pick up a set of 21s and see what happens.
