Has anyone ever seen a list of Farmall dealers from the 1940's, 50's, or 60's? Seems like IH would have recorded that somewhere. No, I'm not planning on going back in time to find a part. I'm just curious where farmers were buying their Famalls back then, especially north central Indiana.

Found a metal strap tag with the ball type lock on the sons H recently the name was FRANK GILBERT, don't know if this was the dealer or the farmer who bought it, It's a 1941 model , appears to have been repainted once, those tags nowadays are plastic, thought they were dealer tags?we are in east centeral Indiana.

What part of North-Central Indiana are you from? I'm in that area. We used Hallsted's in Brookston until it closed in early 80's and then Kenney Implement(Monticello) until it closed a couple years ago. I use Lord's Antique Tractor Parts(Burnettsville) for all my old and unavailable parts.

Funny you should mention that. I was just in touch with H.M. Gleason, Inc. (former IH dealer)in Charlottesville, VA because that's where my grandpa bought his Farmall A and H new in the forties. I wanted to see if they had their old sales records that I could search for his tractors. The company had recently been sold and the new management had told the employees to throw out all the old records which they did. The guy I talked to managed to salvage one old ledger book that had tractor sales in it from the 20's but nothing else. Sigh!!

Just yesterday at the local county fair(Hillsdale, MI), several of us old "duffers" were talking about the fact that in the late 40's and early 50's there were no less than 5 IH dealers, all good ones too, in our county and 2 more in adjacent counties to the north within 10 miles of the county line. Now there is one covering about 3 counties in our county. Believe it, in some ways, those really were "The Good Old Days".

Two active dealers in your neck of the woods are Bates, who advertise on the YT parts page, and Claude Berkshire. The Indianapolis Star had a nice article on Claude and his family last year. He and his wife are well into their 80s but are still selling IH parts!

I'm familiar with Bates over in Bourbon. They do have a pretty good inventory of parts. Where is Claude Berkshire located? Couldn't find him doing searches. He sounds like my kind of tractor guy.
