I have a ih 460 utility with a ford loader on it and I'd like to be able to drain all the fluid out of the whole system so I can purge the system of water. Any suggestions?

My experience is it takes a couple of times changing the hyd oil to get all water out. I changed a JD 2840 w/loader 3 times before it looked clear not milky and I took every drain plug out, swabbed what I could out of the trans housing with a rag on a wire, pulled the tractor onto and back off an incline with another tractor, took the PTO cover plate off and swabbed, drained the loaders cylinders at the hose. I didn't change it 3 times in a row, about every 6 months but that is what it took....and find out where the water is coming in! On the JD it was thru the rotted tranny stick boots. Good luck.

Keith, thanks for the speedy reply. I'm not sure if its just condinsation over the years or if somehow its leaking in from the radiator. The radiator coolent level however does not seem to be going down. If it takes 10 gallons of fluid for the tractor, I wonder how much more I should add for the loader hydroulics. I have a pretty healthy leak comming from around the shaft that the clutch pedal arm hooks to, and I wonder if that is because theres too much fluid in the system>

Is the loader's hydricals self contained or part of the tractor's system?

I beleive its part of the tractor system because there is no reservor tank or expanson tank, and when the tractor it self is low on hydroulic fluid, according to the previous owner, the loader would not work.
