Thought I would share with ya'll how I filled my badly pitted sheet metal and will prevent it from ever rusting again. I took fiberglass resin, mixed it up and applied it to the complete grill with a brush. You will be very supprised how well it coats the pits. As a side effect, if the paint ever chips or I scratch my paint job the fiberglass will protect the metal. The finish is very smooth and thick. It dries quickly too. The only thing you have to watch is runs. It takes a bit to get used to and its kind of messy but I bet that grill will out last any of the new ones out. I did not get any brush marks either. It flows into the hard to get cracks too.

How does this react to high temps. Ex, coating a valve cover, or oil pan.

Bama!

Sounds like a great idea to me. What particular brand resin and what sort of preparation did you do before application? I'd follow the recommendation to post your process in the archives for it is a worthy idea.

Where do you get the stuff? Does it need to be sanded after it dries. Is this a bondo like product? And do you belive it will stay on the metal well or chip away in time?

Hey Alabama you talk about new grills in your post. Where do you find these? I need one for a 450. Thanks

I was mainly referring to the thin sheet metal grills on new tractors and other vehicles. I have seen some real good grills on ebay, most are for the H's and M's though. I don't know of any reproduction grills out there for the 450.
