Can anyone tell me if I am right about the year model of a Farmall B that belonged to my great Grandfather? The original seat frame has been replaced, so I took the number off the engine, just below the number 1 spark plug. It is 3292. From looking at the serial number list it looks like a 1939 model. Is this correct? any information would be greatly appreciated, as I am planning a restoration of this tractor. Also any tips or hints on restoring this project would be appreciated. Thanks Gordon

You have an oldie and a goodie. First year of production. After my first restoration farmall A my advise is take it slow and steady. This reduces stress and at times expense. Use this site to ask all sorts of questions. Get a manual (with exploded parts) and Guy Fays orginality guide. parts are easy to come by when you look in the right places. Uses experts in thier field and be bothered to get it right. the end result will be your pride & joy and envy of the neighbourhood.

Yes, it would be a '39. That is a low number for a B since they started at 501 for A's & B's combined. There are a lot of parts around for B's, but you will have to be careful when you look for them since an early one like yours will have some differences from later models. '39's & '40's use different hood fasteners for instance.
On an early model like yours the engine and tractor serial numbers are the same, which is not true later in the model run.
I suggest that you get a parts manual and an owners manual to start off with. If you have problems or questions just ask. There are a lot of us on this forum that own and use these small Farmalls. They are a fun tractor to operate and usually not too difficult to work on.

Good luck with your B. That is neat to have something that your greatgrandfather worked on.
You can still get alot of parts for these tractors both on the net and from your local Case IH dealer.
