I currently have a Super C with a 6 volt system. The generator has not been charging in years, and I would either like to replace it or convert over to a 12 volt system. What are some of the pros and cons to this? Also, if possible, does anyone have the instructions for converting or a diagram of the 12 volt conversion? Thanks for your help!

Andrew punch below for various wiring diagrams. Any good alternator shop can rebuild your generator to either 6 or 12 volt. You will probably need a new voltage regulator. If you convert to 12 volt and have coil ignition, you will need a ballast resistor in the coil line. NAPA part 13ICR. For light bulbs, you can use 1195.

I bought a Farmall C that someone converted, and I changed it back to 6 volt. The tractor cranks real easy, so I wouldn't see a reason to convert it. If you want to restore it, leaving it 6 volt will keep it original. You might want to check the voltage regulator or cutout to make sure that isn't the problem.

My Super C was converted to an alternator before I purchased it, but it was left a 6V system. It is real nice due to the speed that the battery charges back up and at low rpm's. There is a web page for conversions, info and parts Link

I have converted three tractors to alternator, a 300, Super A and a 130. The super A is 6 volt. As far as I am concerned the 6 volt on the super A has been the most sucessful and trouble free. These tractors start and have steadier power with the alternator. I know you show guys dont agree with the alt. conversion. You will however show up with 656,856,766 or 1066 with radial tires, thats ok.
