Or were they all fast hitch conversions? Fella say he'll sell me the hitch off his SMTA and says its an orig. 3pt. Is this true? Not that it really matters to me.

For the record, the first factory installed 3 point hitch was the "industrial 3 point hitch" on the International 300 utility". This hitch was also available on the 350, 330, 340, and 460 utilities also. Very few were put on farm models but I have seen a few over the years that were painted yellow and were former highway mower tractors. The "3 point Fast Hitch" option was also available on the 240, 340, and 460 utility tractors. It was really a 2 point Fast Hitch with different rear receptacles (for 3 point equipment) and a horseshoe frame over the top connecting the lower receptacles. The third link attached to the horseshoe frame. None of these 3 point hitches had true hydraulic draft control. The British B 275 also had a mechanical draft control 3 point hitch in the late 1950's. The first hydraulic draft control 3 point hitches were found on the 404, 504, 606, and B414 tractors introduced in 1962.

SMTA would have still had only the horseshoe shaped drawbar. The rear tub would have had the 3 mounting bosses on each side to bolt a Fast Hitch to but I've never seen one with the holes drilled & tapped. I have heard of SMTA's with Fast Hitches installed on them by drilling & tapping those bosses though. If Someone has a 3-point hitch on an SMTA it's an after-market hitch since the first use of the 3-point by IHC was in the mid/late 60's I believe, 404 or 504.

I think your right there ,As a kid around home The 504 Gas they had bought in the mid 60's was our first unit with a 3pt hitch. Was the first farmall around home with a 3PT hitch. Some of the locals already had 340,460,560's with the 2PT fast hitch.

But I remember they liked the 3Pt much better than the 2PT because it was so much more adaptable to different implements.

Dad bought a used 450 with Fast Hitch in the mid 60's for His big tractor. Came complete with matching 4-14 fully mounted plow and the dealer thru in a used 5 ft Fast Hitch rotary mower. Dad eventually bought a Fast Hitch 6 ft blade for it too. Sure was easy to switch from one mounted implement to another. The Power Down pressure sure made digging with the blade easy.
