1950 Cub that won't start

I had a message posted last week that my 1950 Cub didn't have fire, well with the help from people on this site I got it firing. I know it is timed right because I have checked it, but it will still not run. I had the carb off and it is good and clean. It will hit once in a while, but won't start. Could it have stuck valves since it was sitting for about 3 years?

Stuck valves are always a possibility. I ran into them with an engine that had just had the valves re-done a few weeks before. I also found 3 stuck valves on the current project that had sat for an unknown period.

It is really easy to check. Do so. Remove all the plugs, and hold a thumb over each hole while cranking through 2 revolutions. Any cylinder that doesn't push your thumb off probably has a stuck valve. If an exhaust valve is stuck, the engine can still start and run poorly, but if an intake is stuck...no way can it run.

You might consider running a compression test. Have you removed the fuel line at the carb to check for adequate fuel flow?

I took a look at the 11/29-11/30 threads.

Are your spark plug wires solid wire?

Do you have the plug wires wired to spark plug 1, then 3, 4, 2?

What spark plugs are you using?

They are solid wires, but they are very old.
I double checked the firing order when I put the plug wires back on. The plugs are champions, but I don't know off hand what the # is.

Thanks,
Andy

I would replace those wires and plugs. In Champions, try D21. Those wires are probably corroded inside.
